Iso Rivolta Marella Design Study Based on Corvette ZR-1

A Russian student from the Moscow State University of Industrial and Applied Arts has revived the famous Italian brand Iso Rivolta through a conceptual design study that was created as part of a "school" project in collaboration with Italy's Zagato design house. Fedor Stetskevich's proposal is called the Iso Rivolta Marella and it is based on the underpinnings of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - you know, the one that's powered by a supercharged V8 engine cranking out 640 ponnies.

All that in theory of course as the Iso Rivlota Marella exists only on paper and as a scaled down model. Overall we'd say that, while there are certainly attractive elements to the design, we reckon that Stetskevich's study needs more work to look the part.

Rare 1965 Zagato Flavia Coupe for Sale on Craigslist

This extremely rare Zagato Flavia Sport Coupe 1.8 that’s located in California has been put up for sale on Craigslist. The 2+2 Lancia based coupe with the unconventional design was produced by Carozzeria Zagato from 1963 to 1967. According to the details provided by the seller in a previous (unsuccessful) auction on eBay, of the 626 units produced, only a handful of models remain intact today.

The specific car was originally delivered to France and spent the last five years garaged in Scotland before coming to the USA. The Zagato Flavia Sports Coupe is powered by a 1.8-liter flat 4-cylinder engine from Lancia that produces 100 Hp. Not the prettiest car that has come out of Italian design studios, but nevertheless a unique piece. It could be yours for $30,000.

While no details were released for Andrea Zagato's concept, it was revealed that Stilo Bertone's study will be a lightweight sports car powered by a V8 engine while Morgan's prototype model will be a two seater built on the Morgan Aeromax platform.

Geneva Preview: Bentley Continental Zagato GTZ

Italian coachbuilder Zagato will introduce their latest creation based on the Bentley Continental GT Speed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The Zagato GTZ features several distinct design elements like the concave roof, the rounded tail and a contrasting colour scheme that differentiates it from the standard Continental GT Speed.

Zagato left the Continental GT Speed’s engine and mechanicals untouched, with the 6.0-liter W12 engine producing 600bhp and 553lb ft of torque. For the time being the Zagato GTZ is just a show concept, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the Italian coachbuilder announced an ultra-limited run edition in the near future.

Geneva Preview: Zagato releases real-life pics of the Diatto

And the news from the Geneva front just keeps coming on. This time its Italian coachbuilder Zagato who has released real-life shots of its Diatto concept (read more about it here: Diatto). Can’t say that I’m impressed with Zagato’s prototype which pays tribute to the historic Italian car-maker. By the way, is it me or does the Diatto Concept mimic several design elements of Zagato’s one-off Ferrari 575 GTZ that was introduced last year? Via: Autoblog.it

Ferrari 575 GTZ Zagato

Yoshiyuki Hayashi is a famous Japanese car collector, who owns numerous cars of great historical value, including several Ferraris such as the 166MM, the 250 Spider California, two Daytonas – a coupé and a spider – and the Enzo. In the classic tradition of the keen purchaser of exclusive cars who stimulated the creativeness of Italian coachbuilders in the 1950s and 1960s, Yushiyuki Hayashi asked Zagato if it would be possible to create a body for his 575M, in the style of the famous 250GTZ berlinetta.

When Zagato received this request, it informed Ferrari of the project, which would be a good opportunity to celebrate the model’s anniversary, and then created a car that harked back to the 250 GTZ, built around the Ferrari 575. Like its forebear, the 575 GTZ has an all-aluminium body, and, as a tribute to Ferrari and to two-seater Italian sports cars, it has joined the exclusive group of cars that are the fruit of the tradition of custom-built cars.

Like the 250 GTZ, it sports two-tone paintwork with styling cues and volumes that explicitly refer back to the 1950s, and sublimates the character of the many cars built by Zagato to clothe original engineering, with the pure style of traditional sports cars. For Zagato, the project represented an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GTZ of 1956, one of the most outstanding GT cars, which has already gone down in history.

The model, which was also commissioned by a gentleman driver and collector, in the best Zagato tradition, is a sublime synthesis of prestige and performance, elegance and sportiness, to the point that it can boast the highest value of any car in the luxury period sports car market. The 250 GTZ has won numerous competitions and concours d’élégance, and it represents a dream come true, because experts and fans consider it one of the most beautiful cars in the world.

The new 575 GTZ has the Ferrari prancing horse on its bonnet and the Z of Zagato on its side, an expression of eternal Italian excellence in its form and content. It is a winning combination, linking the most powerful, famous engineering in the world with the most refined, fascinating sporting style, both made strictly in Italy.

The concept of sporty elegance, functional design that does not merely follow the trend of the moment but strives for pure performance, and the ultra-light aluminium body are Zagato’s strengths which become a universally recognised value.

Just as in the 1956, the 250GTZ was showed at the most important concours d’elegance, 50 years later, the 575GTZ will be presented in a world premier at Villa D’Este Concours D’Elegance, Cernobbio (Italy) April 22 th -24th.

Geneva Preview: Diatto resurrected by Zagato

Zagato decided to resurrect one of the one of the most historical but also forgotten brands of the Italian automotive industry: Diatto. Story has it that Diatto manufactured its first car in 1905 and it path often crossed paths with Zagato. Diatto cars were known for their innovative engineering and as early as the 1920s they were equipped with four-wheel brakes and four-speed gearboxes. Unfortunately, although you can check out Diatto’s history by opening this analytical PDF file, Zagato hasn’t released any specific details on the Geneva concept. Via: Autoblog.it & Zagato

PRESS RELEASE: DIATTO BY ZAGATO - OTTOVU PROJECT

The Geneva motor show goes on - the by now classic tradition of passionate clients of exclusive car manufacturers, which has always stimulated the creativity of the Italian vehicle body makers and enhanced international motor shows.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Diatto brand, two keen collectors turned to Zagato with the aspiration of resurrecting past collaboration. Way back in 1921, Ugo Zagato designed a lightweight and aerodynamic body for the Diatto 25 4DS chassis.

In 2007, the Milanese Atelier with its typically rationalist approach to a project, revamps, with a sporty note, the artistry of one of the most historical brands of the Italian automotive industry: Diatto. Created in 1835 with a Perfected Wheel patent, Diatto made their first car in 1905 and often crossed paths with Zagato in their close collaboration with Ettore Bugatti, the Maserati brothers and Tazio Nuvolari.
