New Peugeot 5008: Official Details and High-Res Gallery of 7-Seater MPV
No sooner than we posted an article on Peugeot's plans to reveal the 5008 minivan this week and the French automaker came out with official photos and details on its new people carrier. Peugeot's proposal in the compact MPV segment, which will rival the likes of the Opel Zafira and Renault Scenic, is scheduled to make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September and go on sale across Europe this autumn. Like most of its competitors, the 4.53-meter long MPV can accommodate seven passengers in three rows of independent seats (2+3+2 layout).
Depending on the position of the sliding rear seats, the 5008's boot capacity, ranges from 758 liters to 823 liters under the parcel shelf with the third row seats folded away. This capacity increases to 1,247 liters when the rear parcel shelf is removed and the vehicle is loaded to the roof and can further increase to 2,506 liters with the second row seats folded away as well.
Inside, the 5008's dashboard design is almost identical to that of the 3008 crossover, which is not surprising as the cars belong to the 308 family sharing the same underpinnings. Of course the name of the game here is practicality. Aside from the modular seats, the 5008 honors its French genes with numerous visible and hidden storage areas including one under the under the steering wheel and a 'ventilated' unit in the lower part of the center console that can hold (and chill) two half-liter bottles. There's also 60 liters of storage space available in the five seat version under the rear load area carpet.
Other highlights in the interior include the large panoramic glass roof (1.69 m²) and the available rear multimedia system that consists of two 7-inch color screens located in the front seat head restraints, a connection console to connect different types of mobile audio/video equipment (video console, games consoles, DVD player, etc) and two Bluetooth wireless headsets.
There's not much to talk about the 5008's rather mundane exterior design that looks like an offspring of the 807 large MPV and the 3008 SUV-MPV crossbred.
The 5008's engine range is carried over from the 3008 virtually unchanged. The initial petrol lineup will include a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter VTi unit with 120HP and a 1.6-liter turbo with 156HP. The more complete diesel range will consist of a 1.6-liter HDi with 110HP and a 2.0-liter HDi producing 150HP when combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and 163HP when coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.
